Have had my CTX DCT a lil over 5mos now, not quite 2000mi during these CoVed times. On delivery, I perused Owner's Manual, mentally noting an empty fuel tank warning on LCD dash panel. A somewhat ol' boy worrier, got into habit of re-fuels just south of 1/2 tank indication, around 100mi.
Considering an extended trip, thought I'd more closely test dash tank measure by extending miles. Now, 5mos into the DCT, my own mind had assumed a lighted lo-tank warning glimmer (as on my other bikes!), NOT the case..((! Making my typical CoVed SoCal Pac Coast Hwy trips, less than 40mi, I had racked up 150 tank mi before leaving on another lunch trip from my BackBay Newport Beach place to Seal Beach. Upon gitgo, returning thru lil Sunset Beach, exactly 2-3 lanes over, from a usual fuel-up stop, my bike commenced 'jerking'. (How can this be(?)).... I had only gotten into my last readout bar a few mile's before! NO traffic around me (SoCal incredible!), INSTANTLY, I went for it, abruptly moving across 3 lanes into station access, bike jerking bit.. Whew! I had made it to a pump, turning ignition off, thanking my "lucky stars". YES, tank was Empty visually & pumpwise, taking some 3.22gal... Nearly exact max capacity. No 60+ mpg this time, more like 56-58. Back home, I returned to Manual review, NO light warning, just a lil extra "LCD growth bracket" around "E", difficult for these old eyes to discern in daylight... STUPID ME...
DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!
I had really lucked out, learned a lesson.... Reminding, yep, 70+ yr old memories often faulty...
