A big reason for chains on race bikes is ease of gearing changes, though on modern RR bikes where the chain/sprocket/swing arm pivot locations are optimized you may see minor changes made by swapping out transmission gears. Plus chains/sprockets are pretty light and easy to engineer into the bike.

I agree everything with you guys about the advantages with chain vs. belt & swing arm... but maintenance free, my number 1 advantage is not one of them. Having said that, the CT700 would not be the existing CTX700 we love with a belt or swing arm without major engineering/engine/cost which I'm sure Honda thought thru.

It's quite possible Honda learned its lesson with the ill-fated DN-01. You'll recall it had shaft final drive -- and a mighty high price tag.
