You're right, this is required for mounting the Honda or Shad hard bags (or the luggage rack, for that matter). It's an inner support that the naked model does not come with from the factory. But the original poster was asking for advice about mounting soft bags.

I have seen people purchase adjustable clutch (and brake) levers from 2wheels.com. It's a known mod to take a brake lever from a CTX1300, which is adjustable, and replace the non-adjustable brake lever on the CTX700. Not certain whether a similar mod can be performed using a CTX1300 clutch...

I quite agree with you, @AlohaRider. If Honda were to update the CTX700 with the 745 motor and the latest-generation DCT, I'd probably throw down for one. I still have hopes for the future, but at the same time I'm not holding my breath. .
