There are cheaper new bikes out there but.....they are 250s.
A lot more expensive bikes too. Depends what you are looking for.
Look at a BMW scooter.....lot more expensive.
Bikes for most people are toys, for enjoyment. Some use them for transportation because they are cheap, cost wise and gas...
I have been riding for quite a few years on a lot bigger, more powerful bikes. Bought a CTX 700 recently and love it.
It's not necessarily a beginner bike.

What do you mean by "mountain riding"?
If you mean going in the mountains at high altitudes. Not a problem.
If you mean off road.......a lot better choices.
